Laser Tattoo Removal - Can All Tattoos Be Removed?

Laser tattoo removal is one of the leading methods to remove any unwanted ink from your body. Over years this method has been developed to become more efficient in its job however is it efficient enough? Can it really remove any of your unwanted tattoos?

The way the laser works is that it emits short bursts of a high intensity laser at different wavelengths. This is used to break up the ink in a tattoo by penetrating the skin and breaking up the pigment particles into smaller pieces which can be naturally removed by the body's immune system. Not all ink can be removed so easily though, there are some differences that can occur between different types of ink.

There are different types of laser wavelengths which are used to remove various colours of ink and some lasers remove it better than others. Sometimes different lasers are combined in sessions to make sure that there is efficient removal of ink in that one session. However some colours can't be removed to their full extent by the lasers. For example blue and green are really hard colours to remove from the body, sometimes you can only manage about 70% removal of this colour which may not be such a bad thing if you don't have much of the colour but if you have something such as a full blown sleeve with that colour then it may not be the best option.

Another kind of ink that is hard to remove is that which is really dark. This may be a tribal piece which is normally done in a dark shade of colour or it may even be where you got a cover up as there will technically be two layers of ink in place. In situations like this you would probably have to go through many different sessions to fully remove these pieces.

There have been cases where it has been impossible to remove tattoos. The main reason behind this happening is that instead of the laser being able to pass through the ink and shatter the pigment it is instead reflected upon the ink making it harder to remove for the patient at hand.

There are other factors that are going to weigh into how hard it will be to remove your unwanted ink via laser tattoo surgery such as how thick it is, the colours used, how old it is (the older it is the easier it is to break the pigments), how big it is etc.

As mentioned earlier laser tattoo removal is a very popular method for tattoo removal however as you can tell it is not really for everyone to go through.
